If love’s a miracle, then to whom does it happen? If love’s a right, then why isn’t it written into law? If love is happiness, then how long does it last? And if it’s pain, then where to find an antidote? Who knows…The world is full of pain as is. Instead - let’s talk about love!

PM Theater's А Star Without A Name is a melodramatic tragicomedy adopted by Ilya Eckstein from a translation of Mihail Sebastian's "Steaua Fără Nume." Written in 1942 in Romania, it quickly became a hit on theater stages across Europe. Produced by PM Theater, the play will premiere in New York City at the Theatre at St. Clement's, November 8 - December 3, 2023.

Commissioned by the Eckstein Family Fund and fiscally sponsored by COJECO, PM Theater's A Star Without A Name is produced by Sergey Nagorny and directed by Gera Sandler.

The setting of the play is a provincial town in Romanian countryside, situated along the popular train route from Bucharest to Sinai. By sheer chance, an express train that usually flies by without so much as slowing down, makes a quick stop at the town's only train station, leaving behind one sole passenger: a mysterious young redhead. Her beauty strikes right through the heart of a simple school teacher, who's fascinated by stars and astrology. Will their improbable love survive past its cosmic conception or will it combust like so many nameless stars in the sky?

Directed by Gera Sandler and performed in memoriam of Ilya Eckstein, who adapted the translation, A Star Without A Name features scenic design by Jenya Shekhter, original score composed and performed by Mariya Vasilevskaya, and costume design by Luna Gomberg. PM Theater's Anna Bredikhina serves as the show’s administrative producer. CAST Stephen Ochsner Anya Zicer Morris Carpenter Ronit Asheri-Sandler Dima Koan Carlo Maria Velardi Sarah Fradkin Sergey Nagorny The play is performed in English without supertitles. PM Theater is a New York City based theater company, comprised of a group of international artists who refuse to stay silent. Perhaps we are unable to answer all of the important questions, but we will sure dare to ask them. One thing is clear - staying silent is not an option. Last year, with a percentage of the proceeds from the ticket sales, we were able to raise and donate $20,000 to aid the humanitarian effort in the war-torn Ukraine. We realized that our production touched lives far beyond New York City and set out on a country-wide tour. The Singing Windmills was performed in 4 US States over the span of 2 weeks, with over 1500 audience members attending. We performed in San Francisco, Campbell, Philadelphia, Boston, and Miami. With our production, we were able to both educate people about the life and art of Solomon Mikhoels, as well as promote ways we as people can continue to help those struggling in the war today. As a grassroots, independent Theater Company, without a board of directors behind us, we are driven simply by our passion for the art and a duty as a former Soviet-Jewish refugees to speak up for those who can't or don't have the platform to do so. We always welcome conversation with donors who are interested in helping our company in developing further works. With the generous help of our sponsors, we hope to be able to bring our incredible productions to many more cities around the country.
