The New Utrecht Library will close the Children's Room at the end of the business day on Friday, June 3, 2016. The New Utrecht Library building will close at the end of the business day on Friday, June 17, 2016 and reopen on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 10:00 am. The project will include new shelving, furniture and a new children's library area. All New Utrecht Library materials holds not picked up when the building closes on June 17, 2016 will be available for pickup at the Mapleton Library, from June 20 to July 8. On Tuesdays and Thursdays (June 21, 23, 28 & 30; and July 5 & 7) during the building closure, Bookmobile service will be available from 11 am to 4 pm. New Utrecht Library has operated in its current location since 1956, but its history dates to 1894 and the opening of the Free Library of the Town of New Utrecht. The branch joined the BPL system in 1901. Whether measured by circulation, program attendance or door counts, New Utrecht is one of Brooklyn’s busiest branches. Patrons of all ages flock to New Utrecht for its diverse offering of programs, the most popular of which include Summer Meals, Kids Create, Chinese brush painting, Story Play, computer courses and ESOL classes. The library’s large auditorium and multiple meeting rooms can accommodate a wide range of special programs, many of which are geared toward older adults.
