About Ivar Kalnins

Ivar Edmundovich Kalnins (born August 1, 1948, Riga, USSR) is a Soviet and Latvian theater and film actor. From the very first year, he was invited to act in films. He starred in the sports drama "The Right to Jump", the melodrama "Ilga the Oriole", the children's film "Faithful Friend of Sancho" and others. The road to fame for Ivar Kalnins was opened by Viya Artmane, who offered to star in the film "Theater" based on the novel by Somerset Maugham. The film was released in 1978. The role of Tom Fennel, the young lover of an aging prima donna, instantly made Ivar Kalnins famous throughout the country. Currently, he plays in Latvia in two Riga theaters: Maly and Novy, is also engaged in entreprises and actively cooperates with television. Ivar has also recorded several music albums. He was elected to the sixth Seimas of Latvia from the Democratic Party "Saimnieks". In 2022, he criticized and condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
