About CHELYABINSK – NEW YORK. CITIES, PEOPLE, STORIES. A Cozy Party at "The White Rabbit in New York

Did you know that Chelyabinsk and New York are connected much more closely than it might seem at first glance? And that artists born in Chelyabinsk have become renowned masters in New York, and their works can be seen today in the world's largest museums? On November 7, we invite you to "Beliy Krolik" for a great Chelyabinsk evening!

Marc Chagall called New York a city "where nobody knows anybody." But we are sure that New York is a city of amazing encounters, unexpected acquaintances, and incredible stories that connect people and places at opposite ends of the world. And it is just such an encounter that we want to create!

We invite everyone who was born in Chelyabinsk, grew up in the Southern Urals, studied there, lived there, passed through, or simply wants to learn something new about this city. And, of course, everyone who loves art, history, and good company!

Evening program:

Chelyabinsk as we remember it and as we do not yet know it. We will watch a video about the city, talk about favorite places, share memories, and find out what people who have never been there think about Chelyabinsk. The host of the evening is Sergey Mikhelson.
“From Chelyabinsk to New York: Three Artists Who Conquered the World” — a lecture by Maria Shub.
Esphir Slobodkina, S. Gordin, and L. Pinchevsky are three artists who were born in Chelyabinsk but established themselves as great masters in New York. Their works can be found today in famous museum collections — from the Whitney Museum to the Centre Pompidou.

How did their destinies unfold? What brought them from a city in the Urals to the world capital of art? And what mark did they leave on the history of painting? Art historian and Doctor of Cultural Studies Maria Shub will tell you about it.

A big Chelyabinsk quiz! Let's test what we know about the city, its history, symbols, famous residents, and unexpected connections with New York. Don't worry if you've never been to Chelyabinsk: listen and watch carefully, and you'll have every chance to win! Prizes from "White Rabbit" await the winners.
And that's not all — it's a real Chelyabinsk evening with treats! Pelmeni, shanezhki, tea, wine, cookies, conversations, memories, new acquaintances, and that very atmosphere that makes us love getting together so much.

This evening is not just for Chelyabinsk locals! It's for everyone who is curious about how the fates of cities and people intertwine, how far life can take a person, and how unexpectedly small our huge world sometimes turns out to be.

And be sure to invite friends and acquaintances, especially those who have ever had a connection to Chelyabinsk and the Southern Urals. May this evening become a real gathering of fellow countrymen — and not only!

Participation fee is $40. Our hall, as always, is very cozy but small, so we ask that you register in advance to be sure to get into the evening!
