About 59 Moments of TV Channel 59
Several projects within Project 59 serve as unique probes into culture, social structures, and collective mentality. World Poetry Book (page 59 from books by 59 renowned poets in their native languages) samples classical poetry. Symphony 59 (59 Opuses No. 59 by 59 composers) challenges the perception of classical music. World Philosophy Book brings together 59 major philosophers through their Thesis No. 59 in order of their appearance.
59 Moments of TV Channel 59 samples television as a long-term instrument of information and propaganda while simultaneously bidding farewell to the traditional numbered-channel structure of broadcast television, which is being replaced by Smart TV platforms and increasingly overtaken by social media.
Each video in the 59 Moments of TV Channel 59 collection represents its country of origin while capturing fragments of everyday reality at the moment of recording. The project began during one of Danilova’s rare visits to her native Kharkiv, Ukraine, in 2015, on the occasion of her solo exhibition 20 Years of Project 59 at the Municipal Gallery. The first 59 Moments of TV Channel 59 video was recorded and edited during that stay and premiered at the exhibition’s closing event.
59 Moments of TV Channel 59 from Caserta, Italy (2015); Hamburg, Germany (2017); Kharkiv, Ukraine (2015); Yekaterinburg, Russia (2016); Cleveland, Ohio (2026); Sofia, Bulgaria (2016)… will be screened on November 2nd, 2026 at the White Rabbit book store.
Admission: $10.
