About Family Album as a Historical Source. A Lecture by Sergei Maksimishin in New York
ATTENTION-ATTENTION! On August 15, we are hosting the legendary photographer Sergei Maksimishin!
That evening, Sergei will talk about how and when family photo albums appeared, what they are like, and how, by working with an album, one can reconstruct a family's history.
Event attendees will see rare albums from the lecturer's private collection: an album of the Yekaterinburg Institute of Noble Maidens belonging to Anna Polzikova, a family album of the St. Petersburg textile manufacturers Tiss-Stuart, albums of engineer Philipp Andreev and gymnast Kasi Semenova.
Using these materials as examples, it will be shown how family albums can be used to reconstruct personal histories and "bring the past back to life".
About the lecturer:
Sergei Maksimishin was born in 1964 in the city of Kodym, Odessa region. A graduate of the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute, specializing in "Experimental Nuclear Physics". He worked at the Hermitage Scientific and Technical Expertise Laboratory.

Участник и автор более тридцати персональных выставок во Франции, Италии, США, Испании, Нидерландах, Бразилии, Чехии, Польше, Украине, Беларуси, России и Израиле. Автор книг «Последняя Империя», «100 фотографий», «Карта памяти», “Родина”, “What was seen”. С марта 2022 года живет в Иерусалиме.
