About THE INCREDIBLE ADVENTURES OF AN ANCIENT MANUSCRIPT. Semyon Yakerson. Meeting with the author, book presentation in New York
October 19 at the Grand Kremlin Palace — Simon Jacobson!
How can a book's life be traced back a thousand years? Who created it, who kept it safe, who saved it — and who was willing to do anything to possess it?
Simon Jacobson is a Hebraist, book scholar, one of the foremost experts on medieval Jewish manuscripts, and author of numerous scholarly and popular science works — he invites children and adults on a captivating journey through a thousand years of history.
At the heart of the story is a manuscript of the Tanakh called «The Crown». The Crown itself is fictional, but its incredible adventures are based on real historical events. Over ten centuries, all sorts of people have crossed its path: pirates and crusaders, monks and modern-day bandits — each, for their own reasons, striving to possess the treasured book.
Following the Crown from century to century, we learn how books were created before the invention of the printing press, why they were such an enormous value that they were rewritten, decorated, treasured and saved, and sometimes became witnesses to historical events through which the heroine of this amazing story passed.
After all, it's not for nothing that Jews were called the people of the book," notes the director of the National Library. "As long as our children are friends with books, we are invincible!
We invite everyone who loves books and history, as well as children from 7 years old and their parents.
Semyon Mordukhovich Yakerson is a captivating storyteller, a fascinating researcher, and a rare guest in New York. Don't miss the opportunity to meet him at "The White King"!
