On September 17, the guest at «Bely Krolik» is an art critic, doctor of culturology, professor, and founder of the art lecture hall Maria Shub.
Can paintings be trusted? Not always. Maria Shub invites you to look at world painting as a fascinating detective story, full of mysteries, forgeries, and unexpected discoveries.
What lies behind the plots of great masterpieces? Why do objects appear in historical canvases that did not yet exist? Where did artists err out of ignorance, and where did they deliberately rewrite reality, catering to patrons, the era, or their own agenda?
We will talk about historical falsifications, anachronisms, political manipulations, and glaring mistakes made by great masters. And most importantly — we will learn to look at paintings more carefully and see that sometimes an artistic lie turns out to be far more interesting than the historical truth.
