New York is a city that many people “know” from books and films, without ever having been there even once. At the same time, literature doesn't have just one New York, but many parallel versions, and they all coexist in the mass consciousness. New York is not just a city, but a “literary multiverse” — a space where different eras, genres, and styles intersect: from the “gilded age” of Edith Wharton to the glittering evenings of Truman Capote and Sylvia Plath, the counterculture and punk rock of Patti Smith. At the same time, there exists a parallel New York of Howard Phillips Lovecraft, Victor Lavalle, and Nora Jemisin — with trolls and monsters from other worlds. The lecture will discuss all these and many other New Yorks.
Andrey Muchnik is the author of the Telegram channel "Reading with Attention Deficit," a journalist and editor, who has lived in New York for the past four years. He has been published in Meduza, The Moscow Times, The Washington Post, and Lonely Planet. He writes about contemporary Russian literature and cultural shifts of recent years. He completed a master's program in literary craft at the Higher School of Economics. He worked in the NGO sector, handling communications and PR.

New York is a city that cannot be viewed from a single point of view. It changes depending on who is looking at it: a photographer, an artist, an art critic, a historian, a researcher, or simply a person who walks its streets every day. Over the course of several months, we will be gathering this vast and enigmatic city piece by piece. There will be remarkable guests, completely different topics, unexpected perspectives, and, we hope, many discoveries even for those who have long considered themselves connoisseurs of New York, as well as, of course, the pleasant atmosphere of our cozy nook!
The ticket price is $40. Don't forget, we have a rather small hall, and the number of seats in it is limited by its size. So get your tickets in advance to make sure you get in.
