On September 19, Alexander Stesin will be a guest at «Bely Krolik» with a presentation of his new book «Olivkovaya vetka».
What can unite people when language, culture, faith, and political views seem to only drive them further apart from one another? Alexander Stesin seeks the answer in the simplest and at the same time most important things — in food, memory, and human stories.
His new book «Olivkovaya vetka» is a journey through the cuisines and destinies of different peoples. Each novella seems to be about a national dish, but always turns into a story about people: about meetings and partings, about the search for home, about hope that remains even when it seems the world has finally fallen apart.
Much has changed since the release of the famous «New York Walkabout». Today, the question of whether people with different experiences and different views are able to hear one another sounds particularly acute. «The Olive Branch» is a book that invites you to seek points of common ground not in slogans, but in everyday life, in conversations over dinner and in a genuine interest in one another.
Alexander Stesin is a poet, prose writer, physician and traveler, author of the books «New York Walkabout», «Asian Book», «African Book», «The Way of Tea», «Diaspora», «Troy Against Everyone» and others, laureate of the «NOS» literary prize.
